Support the Largs to Cowes ‘Brighter Futures’ Cycle Challenge

600 miles. 8 days. 1 mission. To inspire young people to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer.

When treatment ends…

…the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust’s work begins, because for many young people, simply picking up where they left off before their diagnosis isn’t possible.

That’s why on 17-24 June 2022, a team of riders will take on this incredible challenge to cycle 600 miles (965 kilometres) between the Trust’s bases in Largs on Scotland’s West Coast to East Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

Your donation will change the lives of young people living through and beyond cancer, helping them feel more accepted, independent, and optimistic. Follow along with each rider’s preparation on their individual fundraising pages below and show them your support to help them across that finish line.

Every pound raised will help inspire young people to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer.

The difference you will make

Cancer treatment can be very lonely with long periods of isolation away from friends, family, and school. The pandemic has amplified the loneliness, isolation and anxiety experienced by these young people to unimaginable levels.

Through the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust’s sailing and outdoor adventure activities, young people experience improved mental wellbeing, by gaining a new sense of purpose and self-worth, rediscovering their independence, and feeling optimism for the future. They stop feeling like ‘the only one’ and can start to take the next step towards re-establishing their place in the world.

They believe in a brighter future.

Riding to change young lives

Every day the riders will complete between 75-80 miles (120-130km) to support young people living through and beyond cancer.

From the stunning tranquillity of the Scottish west coast and rolling splendour of the Yorkshire Dales, to the chic Cheshire market town of Wilmslow, historic beauty of Ironbridge, and the woodland wonderland of Symonds Yat, there are so many highlights.

And it all finishes in the festival atmosphere of Cowes, as the Isle of Wight hosts one of its biggest weekends of the year – the Round the Island Race. Here young people the cyclists are riding for will be gathered to take part in the iconic yacht race.
